But simply building a blog and posting one or two articles won’t be enough—there’s much more to it. Now, you can’t keep adding to your Home & services page until people have to scroll through tens of thousands of words before they can find what they’re looking for. However, what you can do, is post & share regular snippets of information via your blog. This could be in the form of an FAQ style, ‘the benefits of’, product reviews & comparisons and more. Get creative and find your voice!

The fact is, Google doesn’t want to send their users to dated content. This is why it’s important to answer questions with a fresh perspective. You can talk about topics which have been covered thousands of time’s before, but you have to offer a more thorough yet refreshing summary.

PRO-TIP: Go back through old blog posts & update them where possible! You may have covered a subject before, but as your industry moves on and you acquire more knowledge and experience, you should be able to expand on it and offer greater insight. Now, that’s a very accurate key phrase and it certainly receives a ton of traffic, but how realistic is it going to be to reach #1?

This is where long-tail keywords come in, and blogging gives you the perfect platform to work on them. Take the phrase ‘How much does a wedding photographer cost?’, as an example; If you can create a comprehensive blog post that goes through the various charges involved and why the service costs what it does, you could benefit in a number of ways (e.g., your readers may consider your services, the post may get more shares, etc).

You’ll notice that I’ve created a few links to various other websites throughout this post. If I had a blog post that covered the subject better I might have considered creating an internal link instead. However, when someone nails a topic, it’s good to honour them with a link. PRO-TIP: Don’t give up! Sometimes it can feel like you’re speaking to yourself, but that’s not to say that it’s a waste of time. I know that a lot of my posts haven’t received much in the way of traffic at all, especially the very early ones. Still, the more you write, the better you’ll get. That, and you can never have too much ‘relevant content’ on your website. Keep going!

5 – You can connect with your audience

This is one of the main benefits of writing regular blog posts: connecting with your audience. Create posts that your audience want to read about and then share them through your social media channels. Try to use more conversational language in your posts and ask your readers for their feedback. Again, in the beginning you’ll likely be talking to yourself, however after a while, you’ll start getting the occasional interaction and it can only grow from there.
